Shoshoni used to be a thriving, small town in Wyoming, but now has lost its luster. Some don’t care what happens, while others have fought for the town’s demise to keep the prophecy from coming true. One man, hiding behind the glaring windows of the Shanley Hotel, wants the town restored. The young man, he gave his knowledge to many years ago, can help him in more ways than he knows, if he would just come home.
Strange things have been happening to thirty-three-year-old Cody; he’s lost sleep, heard sounds which shouldn’t be there, and has bruises he cannot explain. A woman, he’s sure has been stalking him, tells him to be careful, and he laughs. When he wakes with her in a motel room, he listens to what she has to say, though he doesn’t expect the psycho-stalker to tell him he should not go home.
At thirty, Tyler is still looking for ways to make an easy dollar, but he gets more than he expects when he goes home. He is seduced by the charms of the man living in the Shanley Hotel, and begins work restoring the block. When his brother, Cody, comes to take Tyler away from Shoshoni he is soon drawn into the darkness growing in the hotel without hope of escape.

Six years have gone by since Mary and Darrin burned the Circus Tarot and the pattern of their lives has once again become predictable. Unknown to them the deck of cards has been busy rebuilding. In order to save their daughter from the clutches of the denizens of World Circus, they must send replacements or they will make her a Clown. However, it does not seem that everyone wants to leave the impulsive world’s seductive charms.

When Mary brings home a deck of tarot cards, the dull life she and her husband, Darrin, have lived changes. Without realizing, they become members of the strange society, leaving behind their daily rituals, and join the ranks of World Circus with carnivorous Clowns, and provocative entertainers. Though Mary is completely comfortable being a performer under the Big Top, Darrin wants out of the disturbing world. After a terrorizing encounter, resulting in death, they learn the bizarre rules of the land, and discover that the denizens of the sinister World Circus want more than to entertain them.

Mary and Darrin make a deal with the inhabitants of World Circus to save their lives. Returning to her life outside World Circus, Mary scours the streets to find replacements for the souls removed from the dark world she’d escaped, all the while wishing she could return to serenity she found in Star’s light as she performed for the Ladies and Gentlemen. Once Darrin is free of the Circus, they learn that not everything is as the inhabitants would like them to believe. After much consideration, they decide there is only one thing they can do.

Saul can control dreams, not just his dreams but dreams of people he comes in contact. At first, he is not aware of what he can do and does not understand why people act strangely when he gets angry. When he goes away to boarding school he inadvertently calls for help from his Spirit Guide.
His Spirit Guide teaches Saul about his gift and alerts him about danger from the Man who wants the gift. His paranoid warnings turn out to be true when the Man finds Saul after he is finished with school. Had Saul listened, then the nightmares that the Man creates for his own pleasure and gain would not have happened. To end the nightmares, Saul must solve a poorly written “riddle” before it’s too late.
